The Artist
The Iron Monkeys are a 5 year-old metalworking collective based in Seattle, Washington. Known primarily for forging heavy industrial steel into intricate, delicate patterns, the Iron Monkeys have quickly progressed from making stand-alone small steel sculpture into creating large-scale multi-faceted gathering spaces which increasingly incorporate fire and water elements. Their pieces have been on display temporarily at the Burning Man Arts Festival, the Reno Mangrove Project, the Burien Interim Arts Space (B/IAS), Critical Massive, Seacompression, Seattle Burners Without Borders events, and Tacoma's First Night Celebration. Their pieces are permanently on display in Rainier Vista Park in South Seattle, and in Whitaker Park, in northwest Reno, Nevada.
The Vision
The Iron Monkeys believe that art should be an experience. With each piece, we ask ourselves, what are people going to feel when they see this? How are people going to interact with it? What will it provide?
Since these are the questions we ask, you'll find that our pieces tend to invite space, fire, and thus, community. We enjoy serving as the beacon across the dark desert night that guides you home, encourages you to warm up just a bit more before your next exploration, and/or causes you to strike up a conversation with other amazing people that have gathered in the space we provide. We hope that our piece will provide a positive memory for you to take back to the default world and welcome your thoughts, ideas, and questions.
Welcome Home.
